Caffeine

When it comes to black tea, it has caffeine in it. In fact, when it comes to tea in general, black tea often will have the most amount of caffeine in it out of all of them. Even with this, black teas will still have about 90 milligrams less than a cup of coffee. You should also know that this caffeine that is in black tea will actually work to your advantage. It will help to promote circulation and leave you feeling energized without the crash that comes later. On the other hand, herbal teas have absolutely no caffeine in them. For people that are looking to cut caffeine out of their diet, then this is the tea that you should go with. Even decaffeinated black premium tea will still have about .4 milligrams in it. Women that are pregnant are also encouraged to cut as much caffeine out of their system as possible. Some people are also very sensitive to caffeine and even the small amounts that are in the non herbal teas can affect them.

Where Herbal Teas Come From

Herbal teas basically come from different herbs. They will often have several herbs mixed into one to give you more than one kind of flavor and benefits. However, there are a lot of herbal tea recipes that will only have one kind of herb in them. You can find the herbs for these teas all over the world and each one will have its own set of benefits that goes with it. You will have to make sure that you do your research on the herbs that you are trying. Some have not had a lot of tests or studies done on them so their safety is not always really known. You will have to make sure that you know. So take the time to understand the ingredients in your herbal teas and how they can affect you, negatively and positively with herbal tea remedies.

Where Black Tea Comes From

Black tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant. This is the same plant that you get white, green and Wu long tea from. It differs from the other teas based on how it is oxidized. For instance, white tea and green tea are not oxidized at all. They differ on the age of the plant when it is picked unlike most herbal teas. White tea is picked from the youngest plant in the buds and high leaves. Loose green tea is picked the same time as Wu long and black tea but is not allowed to oxidize at all. Wu long tea is allowed to oxidize part of the way while black tea oxidizes completely. This makes black tea a lot stronger and darker than the other teas that come from the camellia plant.

Less Tannin

There are some herbal teas that have less tannin in it than non herbal tea. Tannin is something that can sometimes cause headaches and is not recommended to consume during pregnancy. Many people that drink teas will prefer for it to not have very much tannin in it because it is not always beneficial. Rooibos and Honeybush are teas that do not have very much tannin in them at all. Look to herbal teas for less tannin.
